This is from in front of the subframe looking sorta rearward (mostly upward). The starter would be in the hole just above where the socket is sitting. That entire mount braket must be removed from the engine to get the starter out.

Largest transmission I've ever seen. The old quattro trans out of my 5000 is close, but still not that big. This thing has a solid foot in length on a Porsche trans!!

The next step. This is where the oil pump is at, just need to get those torx screws out and the problem should hopefully be visible. I think.
